Sara Perrotta

My name is Sara Perrotta, and I am both an athlete and Athlete Leader proudly serving within Special Olympics Delaware (SODE), where I hold multiple leadership roles focused on inclusion, wellness, and athlete development.

Professionally, I am a full-time Paraprofessional in the Cape Henlopen School District, working primarily with students ages 14 to 22 who have autism. For the past four years, I have been dedicated to supporting students academically, socially, and physically — including those who participate in Unified Sports through Special Olympics Delaware. I am passionate about creating environments where all students and athletes feel safe, valued, and empowered.

Within SODE, I dedicate countless hours to ensuring athletes are healthy, supported, and positioned for success. I serve as a Fitness Captain for Sussex Area teams, leading the start and end of practices and adapting instruction to meet the individual needs of each athlete. Inclusion is not just a concept to me — it is a responsibility. As an Athlete Leader, I actively promote inclusive fitness, athlete wellness, and leadership development throughout the organization.

One of my proudest moments as an athlete was attending the 2025 Special Olympics North America (SONA) 3x3 Basketball Tournament in Indiana, where I had the opportunity to help promote women’s sports on a national stage. That experience reinforced my commitment to advocacy and strengthened my belief in the power of sport to create opportunity and visibility.

As an athlete with spastic cerebral palsy, I face physical challenges; however, through consistent stretching, disciplined training, and perseverance, I have increased my mobility, strength, and confidence. These experiences shape my leadership philosophy: adapt to meet people where they are, encourage participation, and ensure that everyone has the opportunity to grow and have fun.

I am proud to serve as a Board Member of Madame’s Circle — an organization dedicated to championing inclusive fitness, health, and overall well-being. I look forward to collaborating with fellow board members to expand opportunities, strengthen communities, and continue building a culture where every individual belongs.
